Enabling Sustainable ChangeToday, Swedish Hydro Solutions is the Swedish leader in mobile water treatment for the construction and civil engineering industry. We work with sustainable solutions and our approach is considered to be a best practice. We want to change the whole industry for the better – by making our technology available, advancing the environmental debate and by spreading knowledge. We enable sustainable change.
Changing the industry by setting a new standard
Swedish construction sites release huge amounts of contaminated water. Despite tough EU directives, water treatment in Sweden has been lagging behind. We want to change that.
Until recently, there has been little relevant technology available to the construction industry. Often, large quantities of water have had to be transported by trucks to receiving facilities, which is expensive, inefficient and not least harmful to to the environment.
Today, we see a great need for solutions like ours. All EU countries have been too generous in granting exemptions from the quality requirements of the Water Framework Directive since it was introduced in 2000. However, recently both the EU and the respective authorities of the member states are starting to take this issue more seriously. In 2017, for example, the European Court of Justice initiated what became the so-called Weser case, which states that a construction project cannot be carried out at all if there is a risk that the water environment will be impaired.
Swedish Hydro Solutions has the ambition to fundamentally change the industry – and there is no reason why we not will succeed. The technology exists, it is proven and it works. Any industry that is in any way related to the issue of water treatment really has two roads to wander. Either they continue with oldfashioned, inefficient and potentially harmful treatment methods, that often require exemptions, costly transport and constant supervision. Or they can invest in a top-notch, modern, internationally proven technology with well-documented results, in order to gain a competitive advantage. The intelligible choice is obvious.
The governing EU regulation is clear, but clear directives are still needed from national, regional and local regulatory authorities in the respective member states. Contractors compete on tough terms – which is one of the reasons we refined our technology, making it accessible and highly cost-effective. Our present customers see the whole picture and find our compelling greener technology more than justifiable.
