Automatic pH adjustment

Adjusting the pH value is a necessary part of the water treatment process and is almost always a strictly regulated requirement by authorities. A balanced pH level is essential for the treatment to work as efficiently as possible and to achieve the desired reaction in the flocculation process. pH adjustment is typically performed as the primary treatment step in the overall process and occurs before the water is pumped into our HydroBox.

In Swedish Hydro Solutions’ pH adjustment systems, regular carbon dioxide (CO₂) is used to lower the pH value. Our pH adjustment containers are typically placed at the very beginning of the water treatment chain, as a well‑balanced pH level helps keep the flocculation process efficient and ensures that the agents added in our HydroBox perform as intended.

There are, of course, exceptions. In the mining industry and certain industrial applications, the initial step may instead involve raising the pH value — followed by lowering it toward the end. In these cases, pH‑raising agents are added through our HydroBox, and the container with automatic pH adjustment is moved to the end of the treatment chain.

Lowering pH with carbon dioxide is an effective and reliable method, as the technique is highly precise. It is also a much safer approach for the service personnel operating the treatment system compared to traditional methods that often rely on strong, corrosive acids.

Control and adjustment of the pH level can easily be configured in the control cabinet. CO₂ is added from a nearby rack, with the CO₂ cylinders placed outdoors as an additional safety measure.
