Swedish Hydro Solutions’ oil absorbent is designed to effectively control and bind oil‑based liquids and other hydrocarbons while repelling water. The absorbent is manufactured through a patented process using recycled wood pulp sourced from paper production.
Unlike traditional polypropylene absorbents, this material prevents leakage or release of captured hydrocarbons by trapping and retaining the oil within the cellulose fibers.
Hydrocarbon management
The oil absorbent can be used in a wide range of applications and can be adapted to specific hydrocarbon‑handling needs. It is often placed in mesh bags and used inside filter modules, serving as the top layer of Swedish Hydro Solutions’ BioMedia® filters. The modules are approximately 1 m³ in size. Water to be treated is distributed through inlet pipes and spread evenly across the filter bed. Filtration occurs by gravity through the media bed, and the treated water exits from the lower section of the filter. Weight bags are placed on top of the mesh bags to prevent flotation.
The oil absorbent can also be used as an oil barrier, commonly placed inside Swedish Hydro Solutions’ sedimentation containers.
