World-Leading PFAS Remediation Technology launched in Sweden

24.12.12

Swedish Hydro Solutions is excited to announce that, in partnership with SciDev, we have successfully delivered and installed the first FluorofIX™ and RegenIX™ systems in Sweden. This marks the beginning of a new era in PFAS treatment, with a focus on both environmental sustainability and cost-efficiency.

SciDev is an Australian company specializing in advanced water treatment and environmental remediation solutions, including technology for treating PFAS contamination. Their FluorofIX™ technology and patented RegenIX™ system are designed to provide an effective, sustainable, and cost-efficient solution for PFAS removal.

PFAS, often referred to as "forever chemicals", are extremely difficult to break down and accumulate in both humans and the environment. PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) comprise a large group of synthetic chemicals, with over 12,000 variants identified.

These contaminants are complex and behave differently due to variations in the lengths of the carbon chains. Additionally, when other common pollutants are present, the treatment process must be tailored specifically to the site of contamination.

About the Partnership with SciDev

Swedish Hydro Solutions has significant experience in PFAS removal using technologies like BioMedia® and GAC, which are highly effective for long-chain PFAS. With SciDev's method, we can now address even the most challenging contaminated areas—especially where short-chain PFAS dominate.

The cooperation between the two companies strengthened after SciDev’s representative, John Wilson, spoke at the SweWater Summit. Now, the partnership is well-established, and the combined expertise enables us to deliver comprehensive solutions for projects dealing with complex contamination.

The partnership with SciDev allows us to take on even more challenging projects where the PFAS issue involves short-chain contaminants. With RegenIX™, we can not only treat larger volumes of water but also regenerate and reuse the ion exchange resin multiple times without compromising efficiency. This saves both costs and resources, representing a significant advancement in sustainable water treatment.

Regenerating Ion Exchange Media

The major advantage of SciDev's RegenIX™ technology is that the resin can be regenerated on-site within the facility and reused multiple times with maintained efficiency. The resin can also be tailored specifically for each location and complex contamination type.

Ongoing and future projects

The first unit has already been delivered and installed, with another unit scheduled for delivery in January 2025 to an energy company in southern Sweden. These projects mark the beginning of a broader establishment of FluorofIX™ and RegenIX™ on the Nordic market, where we can now offer customized solutions for each specific location and type of contamination.

A big thank you goes to our fantastic team at Swedish Hydro Solutions and our partner SciDev, led by John Wilson and Aaron Kavanagh, for making this possible.

Stay updated; more information will be coming soon, including more details on the technology.
