New assignment: E6.21 Lundbyleden in Gothenburg

25.07.07

In December 2024, Veidekke was commissioned by the Swedish Transport Administration to construct Phase 1 of E6.21 Lundbyleden, Streets at Backaplan as well as the Bohus Line and Brunnsbo Station – a major infrastructure project that is part of the West Sweden Package. Swedish Hydro Solutions, through its sister company CWE, has been involved in preliminary studies for the project since 2020. In spring 2025, we were contacted to deliver a water treatment system designed to handle contaminated groundwater from the excavation works.

The project is based on a co-financing and cooperation agreement between the Swedish Transport Administration and the City of Gothenburg's Urban Development Administration. It is part of the West Sweden Package, which includes investments in roads, railways, and public transport, aiming to improve transportation and increase the attractiveness of public transit.

The reconstruction aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve flow in the area. At the same time, it creates the conditions for a new commuter train station at Brunnsbo, in connection with the expansion of the Bohus Line to double track over a 1,5-kilometre stretch past Brunnsbo.

The project began in December 2024 and is expected to be completed by 2030.

A robust system – tailored to the project’s needs

After the project budget was finalized, Veidekke contacted Swedish Hydro Solutions in spring 2025, following initial water analyses that revealed contamination in the excavation water. This was followed by a site visit to assess the installation area and review the treatment system, which had been designed based on the specific water quality conditions.

To meet the specific contamination challenges of the Lundbyleden project, we delivered a compact and efficient water treatment system with a capacity of up to 12 m³/h.

The water undergoes several treatment stages – from sedimentation and pH adjustment to flocculation and filtration. The system is equipped with automated monitoring of key parameters such as pH, flow rate, and turbidity. To ensure a high level of treatment, advanced filtration solutions are also used, including activated carbon filters.

The system is a clear example of how we tailor solutions to site-specific conditions and project requirements – with a focus on efficiency, sustainability, and operational reliability.
