Swedish Hydro Solutions signs exclusive distribution agreement for patented PFAS technology

25.11.05

Swedish Hydro Solutions has entered an exclusive partnership with the Australian company SciDev, becoming the sole distributor in Sweden for their PFAS remediation solutions, including the patented RegenIX™ technology. This collaboration marks a new phase in a relationship that has developed over the past year and enables Swedish Hydro Solutions to strengthen its PFAS treatment portfolio with advanced ion exchange technology. Notably, SciDev’s RegenIX™ allows on-site regeneration of ion exchange resin, significantly reducing both operational costs and environmental impact.

SciDev is an Australian company specializing in advanced water treatment and environmental remediation solutions, with a strong focus on PFAS contamination. Their FluorofIX® technology, together with the patented RegenIX™ solutions, has been developed to deliver an effective, sustainable, and cost-efficient approach to PFAS remediation.

About PFAS

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a large group of synthetic chemicals, with more than 12,000 known variants. Often called “forever chemicals,” they are highly persistent and accumulate in both humans and the environment. The complexity of PFAS, which varies with carbon chain length and the presence of other pollutants, means that treatment methods must always be tailored to each specific site.

About the partnership

The connection between the companies goes back several years. After John Wilson, Vice President for SciDev Europe, spoke at Swedish Hydro Solutions’ industry event SweWater Summit 2024, discussions about a potential partnership intensified.

Over the past year, the companies have worked closely together on several projects in Sweden, achieving strong results. Now, the terms of the collaboration have been finalized. Through Swedish Hydro Solutions, SciDev gains a partner with a strong, well-established network in Sweden. At the same time, Swedish Hydro Solutions gains access to best available technology (BAT) for PFAS remediation through SciDev. This agreement also designates Swedish Hydro Solutions as the exclusive distributor of SciDev’s PFAS treatment solutions in Sweden.

– We have already delivered several systems to reduce PFAS contamination, achieving results that have exceeded expectations. The partnership with SciDev gives us the opportunity to address an even broader range of contamination challenges, says Margaretha Rhodin, CEO, Swedish Hydro Solutions.

– In industrial environments, waste facilities, and groundwater where short-chain PFAS dominate, SciDev’s ion exchange technology now enables us to achieve greater cost-efficiency. With RegenIX, we can treat larger volumes of water and regenerate the ion exchange resin, reducing both costs and environmental impact, adds Carl-William Kalholm, Sales and Marketing Director, Swedish Hydro Solutions.

Regenerating ion exchange media

A key advantage of SciDev’s RegenIX™ technology is the ability to regenerate ion exchange resin on-site and reuse it multiple times without compromising efficiency or performance. This innovation can reduce operating costs (OPEX) by up to 79%. The resin can also be tailored to each site and contamination profile, further improving treatment efficiency.

Projects already underway

Swedish Hydro Solutions delivered a FluorofIX® unit to a major Nordic company at the end of 2024 and recently supplied another to an energy company in southern Sweden. Pilot units are now available and ready for deployment in new projects across the country.
